The pic that pains !

Tuesday, February 21, 2006

Yesterday I was looking at my friend Rusty's Orkut album and found above picture and I donno why but it really touched my heart. The caption of the picture says "The pic that pains !".

For me this picture is more inspiring than painful. What inspired me was the smile on the face of the old man. I believe he would have lost all his belongings to the floods but still he manages to save the odd old sewing machine (probably his most priciest possesion) and carries a nice smile on his face, what a beauty! I can see his enthusiasm to start his life once again from scratch. Man, he is a real warrior. Hats off to the old man!!! He seems to be much younger than most of the people around me and probably including me.

I have seen people cribbing about petty things and being sad about the thing they cannot control. Come on! World is full of misery but the same world is also full of happiness and wonders and its you who has to choose from either of them misery or happiness.

The message I got from this picture is that its you who define your life. Pains and misery are part and parcel of life and if you have a positive outlook towards life then no pain is big enough to ruin your life. With each pain and misery you tend to become more strong and probably more practical. Be positive and believe in "Failure is just one step towards Success".

"Duniya sabko kuch na kuch rang dikhati hi hai... But asli insaan wahi hai jo har rang ko JEET ke rang mein badal de!"

I would suggest few songs for everyone :

1) Khudi - Junoon
2) Fatela Jeb - Aankhein (thanks to Sunanda aka Badgirl for this)

and there are lots more.... let me know if you come across better songs! :-)

Agreed.. I remember a hindi song, which fits in this context :
"Duniya mein kitna gum hai.... mera gam kitna kam hai !
Logo ka gum dekha to mein apna gam bhool gaya"

In conclusion, understand that there are greater miseries in this world than the woes of the heart.

I have this pic since a long time, and I have a strong emotional attachment with this. I never really never thought about the old man's smile, I thought about HIM !

I hope god blesses him, and noone has to ever go through a pain like this..

its such a striking yet simple picture. surprisingly i dont feel 'pity','pain'... but feel some kind of joy, ease- cos some how it reduces the intensity of the situation. the old man seems to exude his outlook on the situation to the people looking at this pic. his smile='take it easy'
Smilin at difficult times, some how makes it easy to go thru the situation- dont know if its psychological or does it actually trigger some biochemical reaction that give you the 'good feel'.
Rusty nice pic man- did you take that your self?

I liked your write up on the pic. I saw it in Rusty' album...and amazingly at the first glance, I too was dumbstuck by the old man's charisma......his smile even in an apparently difficult time.
A thought then came to me ....would like to share here ....

to archie-- i guess the title of the pic is "pic that pains": it may not pain the old man, but definitely the viewer of the pic! it really touched me... not just the pic but also the write-up..
